    This Week in Kindergarten       Numeracy     Sorting by Shape and Size   In our recent lessons on sorting objects by shape and size, students engaged in a variety of learning activities to deepen their understanding. We watched informative videos that introduced key concepts, which were then reinforced through the co-creation of  anchor charts. Hands-on learning opportunities allowed students to actively sort various objects, providing them with practical experience. This multifaceted approach not only enhanced their comprehension but also encouraged them to demonstrate their learning in creative and interactive ways. Ask your child which objects they sorted?    This Week in Kindergarten          Autumn Exploration               Fine Motor Practice : Colouring & Cutting                      Fine motor skills—those small, precise movements involving the hands and fingers—are crucial for young students. They form the foundation for tasks such as writing, buttoning clothes, and even tying shoelaces. By engaging in activities like cutting and colouring, children enhance their hand-eye coordination, grip strength, and dexterity. Through this playful yet purposeful activity, we reinforced the importance of fine motor practice in a fun and engaging way.   This Week in Kindergarten Autumn Exploration              Terry Fox Run         We felt so proud to run for Terry Fox's legacy and participate in the Marathon of Hope. Thank you to our Grade 5/6 neighbours for joining us and motivating us through our run. We ran, walked and moved for 15 minutes! Way to go Kindergarten! Together our class raised $11 through toonies for Terry.  Library Story Time & Book Exchange           Visits to the library are a highlight of our week. We are so lucky to have Mrs. Haydu read us a story each week and then spend time exploring the library and choosing our own books to take home. Please remember to to send Library books back with students each week to allow for your child to participate in weekly book exchange. We are looking for pumpkins for our autumn exploration.   This Week in Kindergarten Pre-Printing Practice                        .     The first step toward letter printing and word creating is pre-printing skill development. A major component of pre-writing skills are pre-writing shapes. These are the pencil strokes that most letters, numbers and early drawings are comprised of. They are typically mastered in sequential order, and to an age specific level. These strokes include the following strokes: |, —, O, +, /, square, \, X, and Δ. Terry Fox Run & Toonies for Terry We are proud to be participating in the Terry Fox Run on Monday October 7th. AM Kindergarten will be running from 10:15-10:30 along with the our Grade 5/6 classroom neighbours. Students are encourage to bring a "Tonnie for Terry" ($2.00) which will be donated to the Terry Fox Foundation to fund cancer research.  We are looking for pumpkins for our autumn exploration.   This Week in Kindergarten RAINBOW DAY     We had a lot of fun finish off our colour days in Kindergarten! We carried out a science experiment with Skittles & Hot water, can your child tell you what happened when we put hot water on the plate with the Skittles? Students also participated in a classroom colour sort challenge as well as a colour scavenger hunt around the school. We got to go all the way up-stairs to look for colours all around our school! Thank you families for participating in Colour Days, it was a great way to start the year. Orange Shirt Day            Thank you to friends who wore their orange shirts today to show support and recognition of Truth and Reconciliation day that took place on September 30th. Kindergarten read the story "With Our Orange Hearts" written by Phyliss Webstad, the lady whose story inspired the orange shirts we wear today.
