This Week in Kindergarten

RAINBOW DAY 
 

 We had a lot of fun finish off our colour days in Kindergarten! We carried out a science experiment with Skittles & Hot water, can your child tell you what happened when we put hot water on the plate with the Skittles? Students also participated in a classroom colour sort challenge as well as a colour scavenger hunt around the school. We got to go all the way up-stairs to look for colours all around our school! Thank you families for participating in Colour Days, it was a great way to start the year.

Orange Shirt Day 

        

Thank you to friends who wore their orange shirts today to show support and recognition of Truth and Reconciliation day that took place on September 30th. Kindergarten read the story "With Our Orange Hearts" written by Phyliss Webstad, the lady whose story inspired the orange shirts we wear today. We also coloured drawings by indigenous art Hawlii Pichette and spent time on the land discussing our emotions in a sharing circle. We will continue our learning on the land throughout the year and look forward to sharing more with families.

Monday September 30th: Truth and Reconciliation - School Closed 
Tuesday October 1st: 
Wednesday October 2nd: Soccer Residency- dress comfortably
Thursday October 3rd : Library Book Exchange
Friday October 4th: AM Kindergarten / Last day of Soccer Residency 

Red Folders: When student red folders come home, please sign and return any forms and keep any student work at home. Please send back to school as soon as possible, even when empty. If you have misplaced your red folder, please let me or your child know and I can get a new one! 

Library: Thursdays will be our regular Library day going forward. Please make sure students have read and returned their books on or before Thursday each week. This will allow them to so choose a new book to take home each week.

        This Week in Kindergarten   Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable winter break with many memories made. It was nice to get back into routines this week.              .   We welcomed the return to school and the new calendar year with stories, art and writing. January 27th-30th

  This Week in Kindergarten                     Literacy          Letter Cc has two sounds "hard c" as in "cat" or "soft c" as in city.  Each week students explore letters in a variety away to develop a deeper understanding and knowledge of the formation, name and sound of each letter. One of our entry activities weekly is free choice drawings inspired by our letter of the week. This week we drew cats                  Visual Literacy The Wish Tree by Kyo Maclear is a story about a little boy named Charles wants to find a wish tree. His brother and sister don't believe there is such a thing, but his trusty companion Boggan is ready to join Charles on a journey to find out.                 This Week in Kindergarten                      Literacy Literacy is everywhere in Kindergarten! Our morning soft entry activities range from 'Book Look' to 'Printing Practice'. Entry activities give students a familiar task to engage in as they arrive at school. These are tasks they can complete independently and give them a chance to connect with peers at the same time.               Numeracy- Patterns  Kindergarten friends have continued their work with patterns. We have worked on identifying, creating and extending simple and increasingly more complex patterns.
