                    Literacy 

It is such a magical time of year in Kindergarten where we see progress come in leaps and bounds. While progress looks different for each student, it is celebrated equally! As we are approaching the final set of alphabet letters, we took time to celebrate the alphabet and how far we have come in learning about it this year! Way to go Kindergarten!

Pink Shirt Day


 

This year, Pink Shirt Day, or Anti-Bullying Day, was on February 22. This year's theme, Lift Each Other Up, was centred around the ideas of diversity, inclusion and acceptance. We take this day to come together by wearing pink shirts to school to show our solidarity in speaking up against bullying. In Kindergarten we each made a pink shirt day promise, a way we would show kindness to others. 



Book Fair! 
Ramsay school book fair is coming up next week (March 17th-21st)! Not only is it a great opportunity to add to your home book collection, every purchase gives back to the school in the form of new books for our school Library! As a class, we will be going to the book fair to view the books and note anything that we *might like to buy*. Then students are welcome to bring money to school the following day to make purchases. There are teachers and volunteers to help with this process. Alternatively there will be opportunities for parents to come in a shop with their child, watch for further information from the office regarding the book fair!

        This Week in Kindergarten   Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable winter break with many memories made. It was nice to get back into routines this week.              .   We welcomed the return to school and the new calendar year with stories, art and writing. We read the story "Squirrel's New Years Resolution". We talked about what resolution (personal goal) students would like to achieve this year.   This Week in Kindergarten                     Literacy          Letter Cc has two sounds "hard c" as in "cat" or "soft c" as in city.  Each week students explore letters in a variety away to develop a deeper understanding and knowledge of the formation, name and sound of each letter. One of our entry activities weekly is free choice drawings inspired by our letter of the week. This week we drew cats                  Visual Literacy The Wish Tree by Kyo Maclear is a story about a little boy named Charles wants to find a wish tree. His brother and sister don't believe there is such a thing, but his trusty companion Boggan is ready to join Charles on a journey to find out.                 This Week in Kindergarten                      Literacy Literacy is everywhere in Kindergarten! Our morning soft entry activities range from 'Book Look' to 'Printing Practice'. Entry activities give students a familiar task to engage in as they arrive at school. These are tasks they can complete independently and give them a chance to connect with peers at the same time.               Numeracy- Patterns  Kindergarten friends have continued their work with patterns. We have worked on identifying, creating and extending simple and increasingly more complex patterns.
