    This Week in Kindergarten              Numeracy         

 
    Pumpkin Polls 
Kindergarten students voted on their prefered eyes, nose and mouth for our classroom pumpkin. We learned about tally marks as a way of recording number. We say this poem "1,2,3,4, number 5 shuts the door"
After voting was complete, Ms. Cavanaugh carved the pumpkin to match the results with the most votes. Some friends even helped dig out the seeds and pulp! 
Here is what they had to say
"It's so gooey!"
"I got 10 seeds!" 
"I like to squishy mush" 



Persuasive Writing

After reading the story Stumpkin by Lucy Cummins, students created their own jack-o-lanters using sharpie markers and watercolour pencil crayons as their artist tools. Students then had to describe why someone should wish to choose their pumpkin as the one to take home for Halloween.

                      Remembrance Day Ceremony- Students will be participating in our school wide Remembrance day Ceremony. Students who at picked up after class, please note dismissal may be a 5-10 minutes late to accommodate our attendance.

        This Week in Kindergarten   Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable winter break with many memories made. It was nice to get back into routines this week.              .   We welcomed the return to school and the new calendar year with stories, art and writing.   This Week in Kindergarten                     Literacy          Letter Cc has two sounds "hard c" as in "cat" or "soft c" as in city.  Each week students explore letters in a variety away to develop a deeper understanding and knowledge of the formation, name and sound of each letter. One of our entry activities weekly is free choice drawings inspired by our letter of the week. This week we drew cats                  Visual Literacy The Wish Tree by Kyo Maclear is a story about a little boy named Charles wants to find a wish tree. His brother and sister don't believe there is such a thing, but his trusty companion Boggan is ready to join Charles on a journey to find out.                 This Week in Kindergarten                      Literacy Literacy is everywhere in Kindergarten! Our morning soft entry activities range from 'Book Look' to 'Printing Practice'. Entry activities give students a familiar task to engage in as they arrive at school. These are tasks they can complete independently and give them a chance to connect with peers at the same time.               Numeracy- Patterns  Kindergarten friends have continued their work with patterns. We have worked on identifying, creating and extending simple and increasingly more complex patterns.
