              This Week in Kindergarten                   Literacy & Wellness      Identifying how we are feeling is the first step in learning strategies and tools to help us cope when are emotions are making us react a certain way. We have been reading the series "When I'm Feeling..." by Trace Moroney as our weekly journal response stories. Following each reading, we discuss how our bodies feel when we are experience each emotion, the way our bodies look to others, what triggers those emotions and tools and strategies we can use to re-set out bodies.  Numeracy  Patterning    We have begun our work with identifying, creating and extending patterns!    This Week in Kindergarten Remembrance Day    .                                                    Kindergarten friends spent time this week talking about the significance of Remembrance Day. We learned a new poem titled " Little Poppy". Students learned to recite it and we used it to look for familiar letters and to talk about word boundaries and more! We discussed symbols of Remembrance, such as the poppy, wreaths and ceremonies.  Alphabet Recap  We are off to a great start with our alphabet exploration. We have explored letters Aa,Ss,Pp and Tt . In Kindergarten we explore letters by learning proper mouth position to make the corresponding letter sound, singing songs, learning proper letter formation, games, journal work and more.     This Week in Kindergarten                 Numeracy                 Pumpkin Polls   Kindergarten students voted on their prefered eyes, nose and mouth for our classroom pumpkin. We learned about tally marks as a way of recording number. We say this poem "1,2,3,4, number 5 shuts the door" After voting was complete, Ms. Cavanaugh carved the pumpkin to match the results with the most votes. Some friends even helped dig out the seeds and pulp!  Here is what they had to say "It's so gooey!" "I got 10 seeds!"  "I like to squishy mush"  Persuasive Writing After reading the story Stumpkin by Lucy Cummins, students created their own jack-o-lanters using sharpie markers and watercolour pencil crayons as their artist tools.
