This Week in Kindergarten

Colour Days! 
We are well on our way with colour days and are enjoying seeing what colourful clothing friends found to wear, what snacks ideas they had and even tasted a 'yellow' food... eek, it was so sour! 
Here are a few photos to highlight our week with colours red, orange, yellow, green and blue! 




Story Highlight: Little Yellow Little Blue by Leo Lionni 

We all enjoyed the story of two special friends, Little Yellow and Little Blue who loved to play together. Something amazing happened to them when they hugged...can you guess?  Kindergarten friends had their own Little Yellow and Little Blue (paint) and discovered that when they hugged(mixed), they became GREEN!

Tuesday September 17th: Black Day
Wednesday September 18th:White Day /Soccer Residency- dress comfortably
Thursday September 19th: Brown Day
Friday September 20th: NO SCHOOL for AM Kindergarten

Toys & Special Items from Home: In an effort to reduce distraction, temptation and loss, please have students keep all personal items at home (toys, artifacts and other).If your child requires an item for emotional/physical support please speak to me and we will make a plan for effective use in school. 


Volunteering : We always love having parents and guardians volunteer their time in Kindergarten. Classroom support, school wide activities and field trips are some of the opportunities we would love to invite you to join us in. You will need a valid police clearance and a current school year volunteer form filled out. Please see Tammy at the office to get this process going as soon as possible!

        This Week in Kindergarten   Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable winter break with many memories made. It was nice to get back into routines this week.              .   We welcomed the return to school and the new calendar year with stories, art and writing. We read the story "Squirrel's New Years Resolution". We talked about what resolution (personal goal) students would like to achieve this year. We painted fireworks to honour some of the traditions people have around the beginning of the new year. January 27th-30th

  This Week in Kindergarten                     Literacy          Letter Cc has two sounds "hard c" as in "cat" or "soft c" as in city.  Each week students explore letters in a variety away to develop a deeper understanding and knowledge of the formation, name and sound of each letter. One of our entry activities weekly is free choice drawings inspired by our letter of the week. This week we drew cats                  Visual Literacy The Wish Tree by Kyo Maclear is a story about a little boy named Charles wants to find a wish tree. His brother and sister don't believe there is such a thing, but his trusty companion Boggan is ready to join Charles on a journey to find out.                 This Week in Kindergarten                      Literacy Literacy is everywhere in Kindergarten! Our morning soft entry activities range from 'Book Look' to 'Printing Practice'. Entry activities give students a familiar task to engage in as they arrive at school. These are tasks they can complete independently and give them a chance to connect with peers at the same time.               Numeracy- Patterns  Kindergarten friends have continued their work with patterns. We have worked on identifying, creating and extending simple and increasingly more complex patterns.
