All About Me: Getting to Know Ourselves and Others




Printing My Name 

Students have spent time each day working on printing their names. We are working on printing the first letter in uppercase and the following letters in lowercase. We say the teacher is at the front of the line (the uppercase) and the students follow (lowercase). Have your child  show you how they are doing with printing their name this way.

Next week in Kindergarten: 

Monday September 9th: Red Day 
Tuesday September 10th: Orange Day
Wednesday September 11th: Yellow Day
Thursday September 12th: Green Day
Friday September 13th: Blue Day

        This Week in Kindergarten   Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable winter break with many memories made. It was nice to get back into routines this week.              .   We welcomed the return to school and the new calendar year with stories, art and writing. We read the story "Squirrel's New Years Resolution". We talked about what resolution (personal goal) students would like to achieve this year. We painted fireworks to honour some of the traditions people have around the beginning of the new year.   This Week in Kindergarten                     Literacy          Letter Cc has two sounds "hard c" as in "cat" or "soft c" as in city.  Each week students explore letters in a variety away to develop a deeper understanding and knowledge of the formation, name and sound of each letter. One of our entry activities weekly is free choice drawings inspired by our letter of the week. This week we drew cats                  Visual Literacy The Wish Tree by Kyo Maclear is a story about a little boy named Charles wants to find a wish tree. His brother and sister don't believe there is such a thing, but his trusty companion Boggan is ready to join Charles on a journey to find out.                 This Week in Kindergarten                      Literacy Literacy is everywhere in Kindergarten! Our morning soft entry activities range from 'Book Look' to 'Printing Practice'. Entry activities give students a familiar task to engage in as they arrive at school. These are tasks they can complete independently and give them a chance to connect with peers at the same time.               Numeracy- Patterns  Kindergarten friends have continued their work with patterns. We have worked on identifying, creating and extending simple and increasingly more complex patterns.
