This Week in Kindergarten

Colour Days Continues

Students have been coming to school dressed in their best colour day outfits and snack time has been a fun time to share conversations about foods of various colours. Colour Days have been a nice way for students to get to know each other through having a common topic for discussion. Looking forward to finishing off our colour day exploration with RAINBOW day! 


Physical Education: Soccer Residency
                     



Kindergarten friends are soccer stars in the making. We had a great first week of lessons with coach Adrien. We learned how to toe tap and  forward toe tap! We used this skills in games of "Red Light, Green Light", "Freeze Tag" and a mini game of soccer. Looking forward to what we learn this week!

Thursday September 26th: Library Book Exchange/ Meet The Teacher 6-7pm

Library Book Exchange: 
Please have students return their library books on or before Thursday each week. This will allow them to participate in our weekly book exchange opportunity. We are so fortunate that Mrs. Haydu also shares a new story with us at the beginning of each of our Library periods. These books often become quick favourites!

        This Week in Kindergarten   Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable winter break with many memories made. It was nice to get back into routines this week.              .   We welcomed the return to school and the new calendar year with stories, art and writing. We read the story "Squirrel's New Years Resolution". We talked about what resolution (personal goal) students would like to achieve this year. We painted fireworks to honour some of the traditions people have around the beginning of the new year. January 27th-30th

  This Week in Kindergarten                     Literacy          Letter Cc has two sounds "hard c" as in "cat" or "soft c" as in city.  Each week students explore letters in a variety away to develop a deeper understanding and knowledge of the formation, name and sound of each letter. One of our entry activities weekly is free choice drawings inspired by our letter of the week. This week we drew cats                  Visual Literacy The Wish Tree by Kyo Maclear is a story about a little boy named Charles wants to find a wish tree. His brother and sister don't believe there is such a thing, but his trusty companion Boggan is ready to join Charles on a journey to find out.                 This Week in Kindergarten                      Literacy Literacy is everywhere in Kindergarten! Our morning soft entry activities range from 'Book Look' to 'Printing Practice'. Entry activities give students a familiar task to engage in as they arrive at school. These are tasks they can complete independently and give them a chance to connect with peers at the same time.               Numeracy- Patterns  Kindergarten friends have continued their work with patterns. We have worked on identifying, creating and extending simple and increasingly more complex patterns.
